A viral WhatsApp post encourages Namibians to enrol to a revenue agency recruitment program, but it’s fake
A screenshot of the post was first sent to Namibia Fact Check on 11 December 2023 for verification.
The post has since been circulating in different groups, especially in job seekers and vacancy posting groups.
The post (image below) reads as follows:
“NAMIBIA REVENUE AGENCY

Around the same time that the post appeared and started circulating, the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), on 10 December 2023, already responded to the viral post, warning on its official website (image below) that the post was indeed fake and part of a scam.
NamRA stated the following:
“Beware of Fake NamRA Recruitment Page
Please be aware of a fraudulent recruitment page circulating online. The unauthorised page is attempting to exploit individuals by posing as an official NamRA recruitment platform.
Please be advised that all NamRA job opportunities are exclusively posted on https://foresight.visions.com.na/ and advertised through our established communication channels.”
The online NamRA response looked as follows:
The post is the opening part of a phishing scam that encourages people to click on the link to a webpage that is being used to perpetrate whatever fraud or information theft the scam is set up for.
The tell-tale signs of a phishing scam are all present in the post, specifically:
- Poor grammar and spelling in the text;
- Links directing to an unofficial webpage;
- The receiver is requested to click a link to submit information;
- The mimicking or impersonating of an official, government entity, etc.;
NamRA was last year also impersonated by scammers in a tax refund scam debunked by Namibia Fact Check.
