A post claiming that the United Nations is recruiting via a UNICEF application portal circulated in WhatsApp groups for most of September 2023

The scams just keep coming via WhatsApp at the moment, with September 2023 seeing numerous scams being spread via the platform.

One of those that landed in Namibia Fact Check‘s sights is another scam promoting bogus jobs at the UN.

The forwarded post reads:

“Welcome to UNICEF Recruitment Application Form Portal.

Click on the link below to start your registration.

All Nationalities are eligible to Apply.

APPLY NOW

The post contains a link (image below) which is not an official UN agency webpage address.

The post is part of a phishing scam, inviting people to share personal or private details and information by completing an online application form (image below) that is accessed when the link in the post is clicked.

Aside from the fake webpage, other aspects of the post also point to it not being a real UN call for applications, such as the misspelling of United Nations twice in the post – the global body is referred to as “UNITED NATION” in the post.

Google’s ‘About this page’ tool shows that the source of the link in the viral post is Blogger, an American online content management system which enables its users to write blogs with time-stamped entries.
