A false WhatsApp post invites applications in what it claims is “onging workers recruitment” by the Electoral Commission of Namibia

The viral post appears to have been circulating since early May 2023 and was forwarded to Namibia Fact Check on 17 May 2023.

The post states the following:

All the tell-tale signs of a scam post are evident – bad spelling and wording, poor graphics, and a dodgy link which doesn’t connect to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) website.

In fact, the link clicks through to what is clearly a scam webpage promising 10GB free data to old MTN SIM card holders (image below). So, nothing to do with the ECN.

The facts

This is a scam.

According to the ECN website, there are “No vacancies at the moment” at the commission.

This post appears to be some sort of click-bait scam, but could also be aimed at stealing personal information or data from those who interact with the scam webpage.

Once again, Namibian social media users are cautioned not to click on the link in the WhatsApp post.

False

Based on the evidence and/or best available data / information the statements or claims assessed in this article are false.
